Oh, you’re back! That's great!! Ready for another “path story,” as I promised? My husband and I have a favorite little family restaurant we go to (more often than we should) and we have been sharing for quite some time with two of the waitresses, who happen to be sisters and are very sweet. They have learned many things about us, including my love for books and our love for the Lord. Last year they were eager to tell me about this great book that had been promoted on television and other media. It was called The Secret.
I was familiar with it and even knew one of the contributing authors (sorry to say), but this book was not something I would recommend. They were both so excited, they even offered to lend me their copy. As I mentioned last week, we need to understand what is being fed to people out in this world. So many are hungry for peace in any form. I wanted to use this book as a means of entering into dialogue with these two lovely women, and so I read it and began sharing what was wrong with the book and what the Bible has to say on some of the various topics it contained. In short, they each now have a One Year Bible we gave them. Both women shared with us that they can handle reading the Bible now and are asking questions, such as—Is That So? And with excitement, I can say—YES! I will keep you posted.
This story is important for me to share with you because it confirmed for me how much I needed to pursue my desire to help others distinguish the many lies out there from the truth.
Eckhart Tolle talks about the inspiration he received for the title of his book, A New Earth, which is being promoted on television and in bookstores everywhere. He tells of how in both the Old and the New Testament “a new heaven and a new earth” speak of the end of the existing world order. Scripture is often quoted in this book to make one feel that the author has respect for the Almighty, but he quotes Budda and others with the same respect. He wants us to believe that what the Bible refers to as heaven is not a real place, but an “inner realm of consciousness.”
I wonder if he completely missed that God told us about our Eternal home “In my Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you” (John 14:2). This is our hope The New Heaven and Earth.
I have to admit that I have always been very cautious of individuals who speak of near-death experiences or that they have had a peek into heaven in any form. But one very reliable book written on the topic is 90 Minutes In Heaven, by Don Piper. He died on January 18, 1989, in an automobile accident. At least ninety minutes after he was pronounced dead, God answered the prayers of a preacher who prayed over him at the accident, and he returned to earth. 90 Minutes in Heaven
When Dr. Kennedy publicly stated that of all the books he had read on heaven, this book, offered the most compelling description he had ever read—I had to read it! There IS a Heaven! It is not a place of tranquility in my mind. It is a forever vacation spot you will want to call home!!!
