Center Outreach Grows
During Transition Year |
The
year 2003 has been filled with transitions and surprises at
the Center for
Christian Statesmanship.
First, Dr. Frank Wright, the
Center’s
executive
director since its founding in 1995, left in February to
become president of National Religious Broadcasters. In the
months following his departure, the
Center was
pleased to welcome new Executive Director George Roller—an
educator, attorney, and evangelism trainer from Miami,
Florida—to its ministry team.
“My wife Linda and I were surprised when I was asked to
consider coming to Washington, D.C., and minister to our
nation’s leaders,” said George. “However, after spending
time in prayer, we were certain that this was God’s will for
us and for the Center.”
Another surprise came when newly married Capitol Hill
Liaison Laura Gosselin Powell told of her husband’s plans to
attend seminary in another state where she would, of course,
join him. The Center’s
family of believers would lose another dear friend.
In the Lord’s faithfulness, He placed another friend at
the Center,
Capitol Hill Liaison Jeremy Bouma. A former congressional
staffer, Jeremy joined the
Center’s
ministry team just two months after Laura’s departure.
Success
Despite Transition
“It’s almost exhausting to think about the amount of change
that has taken place in the past year,” said George. “What’s
even more mind-blowing is the successful year of ministry
we’ve had despite all the transition.”
This year the
Center hosted 13 events where a political leader
shared his or her testimony of faith, ministered to over 400
congressional interns through special outreach programs,

servants—Statesmanship Institute (SI)—and delivered prayer
letters to nearly 30,000 prayer partners across America
every month.
George said that God has given his ministry team
effective ways to accomplish their mission of spiritual
outreach, ministry training, and restoring a vision for
Christian Statesmanship. “Through 105 Bible deliveries to
members of Congress, 768 cumulative Bible studies, 622
witnessing opportunities, 52 weekly e-mail devotionals, the
Distinguished Christian Statesman award, and
statesman.org—our comprehensive website—we have been able to
minister across party lines and draw believers into
fellowship with one another,” said George.
“In our para-church function, we’ve also begun to
support pastors by offering resources to help the local
church minister to government servants. Our resources
include prayer guides, Bible studies, speaking engagements,
and Statesmanship Institute.”
In addition,
Center staff made 2,500 direct ministry contacts this
year. Some 17 people professed faith in Christ as a result.
“Clearly, we serve an awesome God,” said George. “I’m
thrilled that He has brought me here to minister in our
nation’s epicenter of political power. I’m eager to see how
He will use this ministry in the coming year.”
Dr. Frank Wright continues to serve the
Center as its
senior fellow and advisor. Laura Gosselin Powell now
telecommutes as the Center’s SI coordinator. |

Washington
Insider
by George Roller |
I just returned from a very rewarding trip to Illinois
where I SHARED THE CENTER’s vision with several amazing
church groups. They were very encouraged to learn how my
staff and I are spreading the Gospel within the halls of
Congress.
As you may know, I have only served as executive
director of the CENTER for five months. Although I’ve
been here a short-time, I HAVE SEEN GOD DO AMAZING
THINGS.
For instance, in September we hosted an evangelistic
luncheon for congressional staffers that was ATTENDED BY
THE SENATE CHAPLAIN AND THE HOUSE CHAPLAIN—a first for
the Center. It was an honor to have these two gentlemen
support our ministry efforts and pray for the
congressional staffers in attendance.
After that same meeting a congressional intern
confessed faith in Christ in a most amazing way (see the
Center’s
November Impact article).
I could tell you many more stories of God’s goodness
over the past year, but I would rather show you. If you
would like to visit us to learn more about our ministry
on Capitol Hill, call the Center at (202) 547-3052.
Faithfully,
