Reclaiming America

By Dr. Gary Cass
We stand at the midway point in a dramatic combat: the fight to protect marriage. Both the Senate and House have voted on the Federal Marriage Amendment.
We have hand-delivered your marriage petitions to Congress. They know where we stand. Now we know where they stand.
At least nine states will soon vote on state marriage amendments. These amendments are important, but they will not completely protect marriage.
The bare facts are these: since our Supreme Court ruled in Lawrence v. Texas, 50 lawsuits have challenged state defense of marriage acts (DOMAs). Of the 27 suits already decided, judges have ruled in favor of same-sex “marriage” five times.
In order to uphold DOMAs, we must win every single time. Same-sex “marriage” supporters only need to win once and legal precedent is set and all DOMAs are overturned.
America needs a Federal Marriage Amendment. This is a long fight but a necessary one. Thank you for staying the course and standing with us in this critical battle.
     Soli Deo Gloria

Marriage Goes to the People
Following the Senate’s disappointing failure to approve the Federal Marriage Amendment in July, anti-marriage forces claimed victory.
Such claims proved premature as the marriage debate moved to American citizens for a vote. Since same-sex “marriage” was legalized in Massachusetts in May, states across America have been organizing to put amendments protecting one man, one woman marriage on this year’s ballots. In fact, at press time, as many as 13 states are tentatively scheduled to vote on such state constitutional amendments in 2004.

Missouri Marriage Win
The first to vote was Missouri. Originally expected to appear on the state’s November 2 ballot, partisan pressure placed the marriage question on the August 3 primary ballot instead. Record-breaking turnout on primary day approved the marriage amendment with more than 70 percent of the vote.
Voter turnout was a major concern for the Center for Reclaiming America, as reports indicated that anti-marriage lobbyists were funneling money to the Midwest, hoping to muddy the waters.
As part of the Center’s ongoing Stand For Marriage campaign, State Alerts were sent out notifying E-Army members nationwide of the pivotal Missouri vote. These e-mail Alerts particularly targeted the Center’s more than 24,300 E-Army members in Missouri.
The Center then moved its focus to

Louisiana, which had a September 18 primary featuring a similar marriage amendment. The Center’s E-Army has also played a vital role in petition-driven ballot initiatives, particularly in Michigan and North Dakota.

State Alerts Sent
A total of nine state-specific Alerts, sent over a five-month span, have been instrumental in the placement of state constitutional marriage amendments on the 2004 ballots of Kentucky, North Dakota, and Montana. Further Alerts, as part of the Center’s MillionVotes.com campaign, have notified state residents as critical voting registration deadlines approached.
Now that the positions of members of the U.S. House of Representatives on the Federal Marriage Amendment are on the record, the debate moves back to the people.
Americans are proving that they care about marriage. These past few months have demonstrated that the battle will be long—and that the fight is far from over.

Voter Guides at Christianvotes.com!
You’re registered to vote. You know where your polling place is. You know the major offices being contested.

You can. Go to www.christianvotes.com. Click on “Voter Guides” in the left-hand column. You’re on your way.
For added impact, consider sharing the state-specific information you find with
friends, family, and fellow churchgoers.
These voter guides are non-partisan and are legal to hand out in church. It may take more than three minutes to access and use these guides, but the effects of uninformed voting will last much longer.
These voter guides will be available on or around October 15.
