Bill O’Reilly CELEBRATES CHRISTMAS WIN, Blasts ACLU, “Secular Progressives” in Radio Interview With D. James Kennedy

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL., (December 04, 2006) Television newsman Bill O’Reilly talks with evangelical minister Dr. D. James Kennedy about the American culture war, December 4, on Dr. Kennedy’s nationally broadcast radio program, Truths That Transform. The broadcast airs on nearly 500 radio outlets and online at www.truthsthattransform.org.

O’Reilly, host of the Fox News broadcast, The O’Reilly Factor, and author of the bestselling book, Culture Warrior, describes in the interview how “traditionalists” have lined up against “secular progressives” in a culture conflict that threatens America’s identity and existence.

“People are starting to wake up to the fact that not only are we fighting a war on terror, but we are fighting an internal war between traditional Americans who think that the country is noble and secular progressives who believe it’s flawed and want big changes,” O’Reilly said.

One recent culture war flashpoint is the battle over Christmas—a skirmish in which traditionalists recently triumphed, the Fox newsman said. Retail chains, which last year refused to say “Merry Christmas” in store advertising “have now come around, and they can’t say ‘Merry Christmas’ enough.”

That corporate turnaround bucks a trend engineered in part by the American Civil Liberties Union, which routinely shows up in courts during December to remove Christmas from public displays and public schools. For that, and other offenses, O’Reilly calls the ACLU a “fascist” organization.

“They don’t want you to vote,” he said of the ACLU. “They want to pick out a judge and have the judge tell you how the country’s going to be run. So, I believe that it’s a fascist organization.”

O’Reilly stated that the national news media are squarely on the secular progressive side in the American culture war. “It has gone into the far left precincts,” he said of the new media. The anti-Vietnam war generation that grew up in the 1960s “have achieved power and they’re running the shows now.”

Secular progressives do more than attempt to overhaul traditional American culture, O’Reilly commented. They also threaten domestic safety by opposing “every aggressive measure to defend ourselves against terrorism,” including wire taps on international phone calls, holding terrorists at Guantanamo Bay, and the war in Iraq.

With stakes this high, traditionalist Americans must “get in the fight” O’Reilly says. “Polls show that 60-65% of Americans are traditionalists. If they all speak up, it will make it much harder for these people to change the country. So, that’s the bottom line.”
